Which Five Civil Rights Do You Have?

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

What are my five civil rights, you may be asking yourself? These rights guard you against being the victim of discrimination based on your race, religion, or other characteristics. The Constitution has been modified over time to protect people from discrimination. Still, these amendments have come under attack in recent years, particularly after the Patriot Act widened the scope of the government's ability to track down potential terrorists. Some claim that this law infringes upon my rights. But I'm against it. These rights belong to every American, in my opinion.

Let's first talk about the idea of civil rights. These fundamental rights are protected by the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution. Although freedom of speech is a basic human right, anyone who has violated their civil rights has the right to sue. In addition, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the U.S. Constitution both protect the right to freedom of religion as a civil right.

I'll go on to describe the idea of equality next briefly. The rights of African-Americans in the United States have been attacked by the white majority ever since the Civil War. Slavery was abolished at the beginning of the 20th century, but many states, including Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, treated Black people as second-class citizens. Additionally, they were denied access to certain services because of their legal status as U.S. citizens, including employment, housing, and education.

All people are born free and have the right to all human rights, according to Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. According to Article 2, everyone is treated equally under the law and is shielded from discrimination. According to the American Constitution, equality holds for both men and women. Additionally, it ensures that women have the same freedom as wed men. Finally, everyone has the right to equal pay for equal work, according to Article 23. What are your five civil rights, then?

The first paragraph of Article 25 is crucial for women. According to this, everyone has the right to adequate housing, healthcare, social services, and education. Additionally, according to article 25, everyone has the right to participate in their community's cultural life. The topic of sexual orientation is also covered. Women have rights that defend them, and this includes disabled people. Therefore, don't be reluctant to assert your rights.

The right to seek, receive, and transmit information is a part of "freedom of expression," according to Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. One of the groups most impacted by a lack of access to current information is people with disabilities. In addition, exercising one's right to free speech entails obligations. For example, you have the right to voice any opinions regarding your convictions. You may also call elections using this right.
