About Hassan Shibly

Hassan Shibly has established himself as one of the world's leading civil rights lawyers. On top of his extensive community service experience and expertise as an international non-profit consultant and philanthropist, his name is widely known. CAIR-FL has grown into one of the major Muslim civil rights groups in the United States under his guidance and wisdom. An outspoken lawyer who has been mentioned by the media worldwide, he's advocated for people who have had their civil rights abused.

Syria's Damascus is home to Hassan. He arrived in the United States at the age of four. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Magna Cum Laureate. He then went on to study law at the University at Buffalo School of Law, where he finished near the top of his class on a number of scholarships.

 

Career

Hassan clerked for the Honorable Eugene H. Nickerson at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York after completing his law school education. While in New York City, he worked his way up to the position of Chief Executive Director (CEO) of CAIR-Florida, the state's biggest Muslim civil rights group. From there, he moved to Tampa, Florida.

A major force in the fight for Muslim civil rights in the state of Florida under his direction. In addition, he has played a vital role in forging alliances with individuals from a variety of religious and ethnic traditions. Hassan, CEO of CAIR-Florida, is also a licensed attorney in the state of Florida, where he practices law. There have been several instances of discrimination, harassment and civil rights abuses against Muslim people around the country that he has handled for them. He also provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals and families in the Tampa Bay region.

To propagate his message of justice and civil rights, he utilizes public speaking and social media marketing, lobbying and political activism, appearances and interviews with conventional media, and funding to do so.

In addition, he has founded Help Yateem USA, a traditional Islamic educational publishing firm. A charitable organization dedicated to the empowerment of African orphans. From safeguarding civil rights in the United States to aiding individuals in other nations, Hassan Shibly has raised millions of dollars.

He has defended Muslims around the country who have been subjected to hate crimes, religious intolerance, and other forms of racial profiling and retaliation. On top of that, he's done pro bono work for low-income Tampa Bay residents. Both New York and Florida have granted permission to practice law there.

Shibly has spoken out against the FBI's harassment, profiling, recruitment of informants and entrapment of the Muslim community in his writings and public appearances. Over the years, he has been an outspoken advocate for Muslim detainees, particularly those who are subjected to severe treatment, such as solitary incarceration.

To tell the truth to authority, he has taken on a number of high-profile cases. A Palestinian guy held by the Israeli authorities for more than a year without trial was one of his clients.

In addition, he has sought to release American Muslims who have been wrongfully imprisoned on terrorism-related accusations. He has been in the vanguard of the fight against anti-Muslim racism and hate crimes. Shibly Also, he has worked to bridge the gap between Muslim communities and law enforcement.

As a vocal opponent of Trump's Muslim ban and other anti-Muslim policies and actions, he has been an ardent advocate. He's also taken legal action to challenge the ban's legality in court.

Awards

As a civil rights lawyer and community activist, Hassan Shibly has received several honors and accolades. Florida Bar Association recognized him "attorney of the year" in 2014. "50 American Leaders Who Are Making a Difference" named him one of the top 50 in 2016, according to the Huffington Post. A year later, he was included to the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center's "Most Influential Muslims in America" list.
